Is it an Ellensburg Blue? Location, formation, and color go a long ways towards helping to identify agates from the Ellensburg area. But what else can help?
Join us for a presentation on the identification of Ellensburg Blue agates, tips to help you find them, and what to do with one once you’ve got it, such as tumbling, or cutting it for jewelry. Or simply cleaning and keeping it in a natural state for display.
We’ll also discuss what the current “definition” of an Ellensburg Blue is, and why there is so much controversy and desperation surrounding them. It should be a lively conversation!
Chris Herrera is one half of the YouTube channel, Chris & Andrew Outside. He spends his time hiking, biking, fishing, and rockhounding, with a special emphasis on his favorite, the Ellensburg Blue Agate. Chris also regularly exercises with his best friend Andrew, as well as videoing their adventures going Outside, for YouTube.
Although not a trained geologist, Chris has spent his entire life collecting rocks, and in more recent years studying Ellensburg Blues, which he hunts for and makes jewelry from. He has an extensive collection of Ellensburg Blues, and believes every blue is amazing from the smallest to the biggest.
Chris is a past President of the South Sound Mushroom Club, as well as a past Vice President of the Thurston County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Council.
